Designed to function outside the rules that govern other financial organisations, what is it they do and - significantly - how is it that they have prospered since the 2008 meltdown?
Author, lawyer and academic, Timothy Spanger is a Senior Fellow at Melbourne Law School, Adjunct Professor of Law at UCLA and Visiting Lecturer at London's University College Faculty of Law. A regular financial commentator on ABC Radio, he has appeard on CNN, CNBC, BBC and Sky News. His articles have been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Financial Times, the Economist and Forbes.

The Benefit Dinner raised funds to support the Education Fund, which fosters post-doctoral research between Australia and the United States. To date, more than 190 Fellows have received awards totalling over US$4 million to pursue studies in critical fields from medical research to sustainability at top institutions such as MIT, Harvard and Princeton.
The Dinner also profiled the newly established Perth USAsia Centre at the University of Western Australia, a globally significant academic institution and leading think-tank on the Australia-Asia-US political, cultural, business and economic relationship, the Centre is an initiative of the American Australian Association, in collaboration with the University of Western Australia, with funding from the Federal and State Government.
