2014 American Australian Association Benefit Dinner

The recent 2014 AAA Benefit Dinner in Perth on 30 April was a tremendous success.  Over 450 attendees including WA Governor H.E. Malcolm McCusker, WA Premier Colin Barnett, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop,  US Ambassador John Berry, Singapore High Commissioner Michael Teo Eng Cheng, Minister of Defence David Johnston, Minister for Mines & Petroleum Bill Marmion, WA Opposition Leader Mark McGowan, WA Treasurer Michael Nahan, Australian Consul General Designate to New York Nick Minchin, Lord Mayor of Perth Lisa M. The Benefit Dinner raised funds to support the Education Fund, which fosters post-doctoral research between Australia and the United States. To date, more than 190 Fellows have received awards totalling over US$4 million to pursue studies in critical fields from medical research to sustainability at top institutions such as MIT, Harvard and Princeton.

The Dinner also profiled the newly established Perth USAsia Centre at the University of Western Australia, a globally significant academic institution and leading think-tank on the Australia-Asia-US political, cultural, business and economic relationship, the Centre is an initiative of the American Australian Association, in collaboration with the University of Western Australia, with funding from the Federal and State Government.
