APSA Congressional Fellowship Scholar: Jonathan Swan

The American Australian Association is awarding Mr. Jonathan Swan the 2014 American Political Science Association (APSA) Congressional Fellowship. The APSA Fellowship elicited keen interest from a highly competitive pool of applicants from top Australian government and private sector entities.

Jonathan Swan is the national political correspondent for The Sydney Morning Herald and Fairfax Media's family of newspapers and websites across Australia. Jonathan's reporting appears in The Age newspaper in Melbourne, WA Today, the Brisbane Times and the Canberra Times. He also appears on various radio and television political programs, including as a regular panelist on ABC's flagship political program, Insiders. Jonathan has investigated public policy areas including health, environment, immigration and border protection, foreign affairs, legal affairs, communication, and broadband. In 2014, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott presented Jonathan with the Wallace Brown Award, recognizing him as the most outstandin g young journalist in the federal parliamentary press gallery.

Founded in 1953, the APSA Congressional Fellowship Program is the nation's oldest and most prestigious congressional fellowship. APSA Congressional Fellowship supports individuals from a broad range of expertise who seek to gain an understanding of the US legislative process through working on Capitol Hill with Congressional staff. Candidates include political journalists, early-to-mid-career academics, and experts from the fields of foreign policy, economics, migration, environment, science, and social issues.
