On behalf of everyone at the American Australian Association, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support of the AAA.

2012 has certainly been an exciting year. Not only did we receive support to establish the USAsia Centre in Perth, but we held a number of excellent programmes and functions in both Melbourne and Sydney.

We are grateful to our members for their support of the Association, and we wish you a safe and joyous holiday season.

AAA, US Studies Centre and The University of Western Australia launch the Perth USAsia Centre

After AAA's successful establishment of the US Studies Centre (USSC) in Sydney 5 years ago, AAA sought and obtained Federal and State (WA) Government support to establish a campus in Perth.

Perth USAsia Centre is a $10 million initiative between AAA, the US Studies Centre and The University of Western Australia with major funding from the Australian and Western Australian Governments and US corporations.

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton took part in launching the Perth USAsia Centre, a new West Australian-based institution aimed at strengthening the ties between the United States, Australia and the Asian region.

AAA celebrates Thanksgiving in Melbourne

On 21 November 2012, the Victorian Multicultural Commission in consultation with the American Australian Association and the US Consulate General, hosted a traditional Thanksgiving lunch at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne.

In an effort to capture the essence of Thanksgiving, a bountiful harvest feast was shared amongst 50 guests. In attendance were guests from interfaith and multicultural community organisations, representatives of organizations serving disadvantaged communities, members of those same communities, and sports figures making a difference.

The event was extremely successful in engaging the Victorian community and provided attendees with an opportunity to interact with representatives from Australia and the US, to obtain an appreciation of the significance of Thanksgiving to Americans, and form friendships and future alliances.
