For the past eight years, G'Day USA has brought together industry leaders and key influencers in government, business, tourism, academia and the arts to successfully cultivate and enhance the long term and deep Australia-US relationship.

Over a period of three weeks in January 2012, a series of events will reach target audiences in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, Dallas, Houston and Chicago through conferences, forums, networking, galas, product sampling and promotions. The result is one of the most effective, far reaching and comprehensive annual national promotions across many areas.

Spotlight: AAA Education Fellow

Eileen Dunne is an AAA Morgan Stanley Pediatrics Fellow from the US to Australia for 2010-2011.

Eileen completed a PhD in microbiology at Boston University in 2010 and joined the pneumococcal research group at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) in Melbourne as a postdoctoral scientist. This laboratory studies Streptococcus pneumoniae, the most common cause of childhood pneumonia and the cause of approximately one million child deaths per year, the vast majority of which occur in developing countries. Eileen’s work focuses on studying the effects of pneumococcal vaccination on children in developing countries and utilizing new technologies for genetic surveillance of Streptococcus pneumoniae. A manuscript based upon her work investigating the carriage of Streptococcus pneumoniae in Papua New Guinean children was recently accepted for publication by the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. Eileen’s project has allowed her to collaborate with key Australian infectious disease researchers in Melbourne and in Darwin and become involved in international child health research in Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

She enjoys living and working in Melbourne and has developed an appreciation for good coffee and AFL games. Following the completion of her fellowship, Eileen has decided to stay on at MCRI for an extra year before returning to the United States and looks forward to continuing her involvement with AAA.
