2013 Benefit Dinner

The American Australian Association hosts Benefit Dinners to recognise prominent individuals who have made significant contributions to business, economic, social and cultural relationships between the United States and Australia. Proceeds from the dinner go towards building the Association's Education Fund.

The recent 2013 Annual benefit Dinner at Sydney’s Convention Centre on 6 June was a tremendous success.  Over 500 attendees including Prime Minister Julia Gillard, former PM John Howard, Federal Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop, US Ambassador Jeffrey Bleich, Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner, NSW Treasurer Mike Baird, Business Council of Australia President Tony Shepherd, Commonwealth Bank of Australia Chairman David Turner, News Ltd CEO Kim Williams,  Qantas Chairman Leigh Clifford, Visy Executive Chairman Anthony Pratt, Bluescope Steel Chairman Graham Kraehe, IBM Australia Managing Director Andrew Stevens,  Woolworths Chairman Ralph Waters,  Bank of America Merrill Lynch CEO & Country Head Craig Drummond, Citi CEO & Country Head Stephen Roberts, McDonald Australia CEO Catriona Noble, Worley Parsons Chairman John Grill, Nine Network Chairman David Haslingden,  Coca-Cola Australia Managing Director Warwick White,  Proctor & Gamble Australia Managing Director Maile Carnegie and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Managing Partner John Meacock gathered to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Andrew Liveris, Chairman and CEO of The Dow Chemical Company; and, Richard Warburton AO LVO.

The Benefit Dinner raised funds to support the Education Fund, which fosters post-doctoral research between Australia and the United States. To date, more than 160 Fellows have received awards totalling over US$4 million to pursue studies in critical fields from medical research to sustainability at top institutions such as MIT, Harvard and Princeton.
