The official website for the United States Studies Centre at The University of Sydney. The USSC was co-founded by the American Australian
Association and the New South Wales government in 2006, and initially funded with a $25million Commonwealth grant which was awarded to Sydney
University. USSC commences their first graduate programme of study in 2008. They foster a close collaboration with a number of prestigious universities.
In 2007 the USSC hosted their first National Academic Summit which garnered much praise.

Founded in 1922 as a social club for Americans living in Sydney, they continue to support Americans living and working in Sydney. Members gather to socialise at The American Club the third Friday of each month from 6pm.

Originally founded in 1922 as the "British-American Co-operation Movement for World Peace", it was incorporated as the Australian American Association in 1941 in Queensland, which still maintains a very active chapter. The New South Wales chapter has amalgamated with our organisation.

The American Club celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2007. It is one of the oldest established clubs in Sydney and boasts some of the best views as well, from atop its location on Macquarie Street. Members of many nationalities make use of the facilities and it has an variety of events throughout the year as well as providing members with use of their facilities for business or socialising.

AMERICAN SPORT IN AUSTRALIA
Fox Sports and Setanta broadcast gridiron (football in Australia is rugby union, rugby league and Australian Rules Football) on a limited basis throughout the season, but do broadcast the Super Bowl each year. ESPN is also available through Foxtel cable and is increasing its US sports coverage here all the time, showing MLB games, NHL, (hockey in Australia is field hockey) in limited broadcast. Newspapers like the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph will list the current competition ladders for a wide variety of sports.
For soccer fans (it is called soccer in Australia), there is no lack of programming available, with the EPL available on SBS, a free-to-air TV station. There is A-League soccer in Australia and the Socceroos, the national team has performed well in recent matches.
Tennis is also available with Fox Sports and ESPN broadcasting the various international tennis competitions. Some are also broadcast on ABC and SBS, both free-to-air.
Most pubs broadcast a variety of sports, local and international. It's a matter of searching for them. Almost every pub broadcasts sports, but it one has to find out from friends or word of mouth those that broadcast the AFL, NFL, baseball and NBL. James Squire Brewhouse and Restaurant is one of several Sydney venues that also broadcast US sports.
