The Schelling Point

All's fair in love and war!

Chester Productions presents

THE SCHELLING POINT

WRITTEN by Ron Elisha

DIRECTED by Sarah Goodes

PERFORMED by David Callan, Daniel Cordeaux, Jonathan Elsom, Andrew Henry, Jamie McGregor, Marshall Napier and introducing Miss Lauren La Rouge

All’s fair in love and war, or so they say.  But when the players are John F Kennedy, Stanley Kubrick, Tom Schelling, Peter Sellers, Frank Sinatra and a Cuban Missile Crisis, the outcome is anything but expected.

Nobel Prize winner Tom Schelling was a widely respected nuclear strategist, whose influence fed directly into the White House and indirectly into Stanley Kubrick’s filmmaker mind.

The result of this collision is Ron Elisha’s entertaining play, THE SCHELLING POINT, switching quickly between amusing, sometimes farcical comedy as Kubrick creates Dr Strangelove to high tension as the President and his inner circle struggle to rein in World War III, all played out to the emotional rhythms of Frank Sinatra’s unapologetic romanticism.

In a complex and disarming work that weaves its way between the world of realpolitik and the ‘reality’ of filmmaking, THE SCHELLING POINT explores the fanciful and ultimately romantic game theory notion that human behaviour is largely rational.

Using the Schelling Point – the point at which two parties who are unable to communicate can reach a common ground – as its focal point, the play undercuts the political landscape of the 60s with the personal crises of its protagonists.  The result is a funny, often moving and unsettling piece that challenges our notions of how the world really works.

The Manhattan Short Film Festival

The World's First Global Film Festival

Film lovers in Sydney will get the chance to unite with audiences around the world for a week of cultural exchange, with the chance to see 10 Films from 10 different Countries in the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival.

SYDNEY- You Be the Judge

This festival is a unique opportunity for film buffs in Sydney to catch a glimpse of the filmmakers and story tellers of tomorrow.
And best of all, you get to have your say by voting for your favourite short!

Emerging from humble beginnings in downtown Manhattan and created by Aussie Nick Mason, the Festival is now celebrating its 12th year. Nick Mason, a former Australian actor/director left for NYC 12-years-ago to pursue his acting career. With a small budget, Mason decided to screen a series of Short Films onto the side of a delivery truck on Mulberry Street, Downtown Soho- Manhattan. Support for the festival began to grow each year, with audiences travelling from all over NYC to see the shorts. Over time, this small art-house project morphed into the global phenomenon it is today.
